Merseyside Asbestos Victims Support Group

This year, due to Covid-19, we will be holding our Action Meso Day as a Virtual Event.

The main objective for this commemorative day is to raise much-needed awareness about mesothelioma and to raise money for mesothelioma research.

To start the day we will be joined by Maria Guerin of MesoUK, a small number of clinicians, MAVS trustees, and dignitaries for a Dove Release at 12.00 in memory of those whom we have lost to mesothelioma. While we are unable to invite you to attend this in person, you will be able to watch the dove release and Scroll of Remembrance online.

We will then be joining UK Mesothelioma Alliance for a national virtual event running from 12.30 to 1.30 pm

Please visit our website; www.mavsg.org or our Facebook page ‘Mavsg Editorial’ to watch the event live from 11.55 am. For more information please contact us on 0151 236 1895 or info@mavsg.org

East of England Asbestos Patient Support Group (EEA-PSG)

“East of England Asbestos Patient Support Group (EEA-PSG) will be holding our customary AMD Commemoration and Observance at St. Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St. Edmunds, West Suffolk between Fri 02 July – Mon. 05 July, starting with an Awareness Display in the cloisters of the cathedral on Fri. 02 July and concluding with an open-air observance and commemoration in the Pilgrims Garden (Garden of Remembrance) at 12 noon on Monday 05. July. The Awareness Display is under cover and will be open throughout the week-end. Monday’s AMD event will be undercover if wet.

The Action Meso Day event has been the highlight of the Mesothelioma year in Suffolk and Norfolk since 2016 and is held in a place where pilgrims have sought healing and hope since the year 630AD. The Abbey came to prominence in 869AD with the death of St. Edmund Saint, King and Martyr and has always been associated with healing. The cathedral is also famous as the location for the drafting of Magna Carta by the Norman Barons in 1214AD.

Our commemoration takes place in one of the oldest parts of the Abbey – the location of the Pilgrims Stone. Set amongst a beautiful rose garden and adjacent to a scensory garden with towering walls, our observance comprises readings, music, prayers of remembrance and the laying of wreathes and personal tributes. A bell will be rung marking the names of the fallen. A blessing will be read by a member of the Dean and Faculty of Ipswich and Bury St. Edmunds followed by luncheon in the Pilgrims Kitchen and Cloister Garth.

All are welcome and admission is free. Social distancing will be observed”
